One to Miss– A Mediochre Movie for Vishal’s attempt to change Genre

Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai , directed by Thiru, is a newly released Tamil movie

Vishal has not had great success with his action movies, so here is his first venture into light entertainment, in an attempt to succeed in a new field.

Thiru, as director, chose a romantic storyline, and while full of glamour and humour, did not make the best of the original plot. His attempts fall far short of extracting the best from this script. The result is unconvincing, and uninteresting.

The film tells of a young man, of uppermiddle class, who liked to surround himself with various options before making his life choices. This young man, Karthik (played by Vishal) decides to take the same approach when choosing a wife.He sets out to find three girls and have them fall in love with him.

The girls he chooses are:

Tejaswini (Neetu Chandra) a millionairess.

Jyothi  (Tanushree Dutta) a man-hating athlete

Priya (played by Sarah Jane) a student, trying to avoid an arranged marriage.

One failing of the director in this movie, is in showing the three women falling for a guy for no apparent reason. The millionairess discovers Karthik’s plan, however, and irked by his fooling her, plans revenge by exposing him.Karthik appears to be outsmarting Tejaswini, but in the end gets his comeuppance, and learns a lesson.

Is unconvincing offer by Thiru, fails to convince us in any part.

You feel you are watching an attempt to reinvent Vishal, create a new image for the actor, and in doing so, and lose all point of the movie. Karthik’s wooing of the three girls, and their consequent falling for him could have been explored a lot further, the characters exploited a lot deeper. The dialogue was sadly lacking.

Vishal copes quite well with his role, particularly in the comic scenes, and his muscles are displayed well, but in parts he appears to copy the mannerisms of Vijay, taken from certain films.He was upstaged somewhat by the attractive Neetu, both by her acting and her singing.

The whole film was lightened  by the comedy of Santhanam, Mayilsami and Sathyan, whose comic antics saved the movie.The beautiful cinematography was unfortunately wasted on a mediocre film, with an unconvincing script.
